People with sore feet have been coming to Chick’s Shoes for relief since 1949. Now, this service has grown into a recognized trade called pedorthics. This includes professional shoe fitting, shoe modifications of all kinds, O.T.C. and incredibly comfortable custom orthotics.
What To Expect At Your Pedorthic Evaluation Appointment
We start by having you fill out our “feet sheet” detailed questionaire. This helps us efficiently gather useful information about your condition. Once complete we will go over the information and take additional notes while talking with you. We will inspect your current footwear, measure your feet, and evaluate your gait. We do a pedorthic evaluation of your feet checking range of motion, foot characteristics, arch height, potential challenges. Once complete, we will make a recommendation for shoes and/or orthotics and go to work on getting you relief.
Building Orthotics
We are happy to offer custom molded orthotics as well as over the counter arch supports. Our long history of success with orthotics continues to grow, We have the advantage of operating our own lab, as well as strong support from local and national labs. The over-the-counter options you will find from us are unique to our shop. Some won’t be found anywhere else. We are able to modify any of our products to provide more comfort. We try to keep several options available for those who aren’t ready for customs.
When building custom orthotics, the varieties and possible material combinations are literally endless. We take into consideration the knowledge gained from your pedorthic foot evaluation, your current needs, foot type, arch type and shoes to be worn. With that information, we put together a great recipe for what to build. We aren’t limited by anything when it comes to custom!

Process – The Last Will Be First
“The last will be first…” is a famous quotation about humility. The shoe construction, the “last” is the wood form that the shoe is built around. The shape of the “last” dictates the shape of the shoe. When selecting your shoes, take into consideration the shape of your feet. The “last” of that shoe should resemble your foot. Rounded toes, rounded “last”. Square foot, square last. Hammered toes, deep toe box. Bunions, wide last and soft uppers.
We see a lot of shoes brought in for “stretching.” This is rarely the case with shoes fitted by us. Consider coming by for your next shoe. We will measure your feet and will help you get a shoe built on a last for your foot. This can sometimes require humility… remember, the last will be first.
